Kristen Mimms Scavnicky… is an artist, designer, and educator. She holds a Masters of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Kentucky. She has previously practiced as a Designer at Studio Techne Architects in Cleveland, Ohio and Project Manager at RED Architecture & Planning in Columbus, Ohio. Kristen is currently an Assistant Professor at Kent State University College of Architecture and Environmental Design.

Her research and teaching agenda focus on how art and architecture can and should engage with the world as activists. In addition to her work at firms, she has an active practice of designing textiles which reflects her interest in ornament and its relationship to identity.

Ryan Scavnicky… also known as sssscavvvv on Instagram, is the founder of Extra Office, a design studio that investigates architecture culture via media, memes, and content creation to seek new agencies for critical practice. This has led to a recent interest in the overlaps between architecture theory and the social spaces of video games.

Ryan spent six years in practice with international offices in Beijing, San Francisco, and Vienna. He studied at L'Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris and DAAP in Cincinnati for his Masters of Architecture. Ryan received his Masters in Design Theory and Pedagogy with distinction from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. In the 2018-19 school year, Ryan served as the Visiting Teaching Fellow at the School of Architecture at Taliesin.

He now teaches at Kent State University College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and also works as the college’s Gallery Coordinator.
